ARC offers a variety of programs during the summer to better assist your child. Here are different
programs offered for the summer 2010 camp.

SEP Summer Education Program June through August: 8:45a.m. to 3:15 p.m.
A structured program which alternates group crafts and activities with one to one individual teaching
sessions. Staffing is one child to one counsellor. Cost is $175 per week. Partial weeks are sometimes
available (half days or 2-3 days per week). A copy of the child's SEP is a requirement for registration
and where possible our counsellors prefer to meet with parents and resource teachers before the end
of the school year.

The Outreach Program June through August:
With the support of community camps that have included Zoo Camp, Camp Centennial, Camp
Wildwood, ABU Basketball Camp, McKenzie Art College, St. Pat's, and Mad Science Camp, children
with autism and related developmental disorders can participate in a day camp with the support of an
ARC camp counsellor. Bring us your ideas! The cost for the outreach program varies depending on the
program selected, but we work with outside agencies to keep the costs as low as possible.

Teen Transition: June through August: 2-3 times a week:
For teens of all developmental levels who need encouragement to keep learning over the summer,
and who do not have the skills necessary to hold a part-time job, we are pleased to offer this program
again. Some teens will be participating in activities which focus on independence and communication
skills. Others may benefit more from a social skills program which builds employability skills. The
shape(s) this program takes will depend on the needs of the students who register. One change this
year, instead of going in four week blocks, this will operate two-three days/week throughout the
summer. If full weeks are required, arrangements may be made to supplement with attendance at
METS or with work as a junior counsellor in the SEP program.

Reading Club: A separate application and intake interview is required for this program, which runs two
mornings per week beginning June 27th. There are separate groups for English and French speaking
children. It<s appropriate for elementary school aged children who have some emerging reading
skills. The reading club, from the kids's point of view, will be full of fun stories as well as some
interesting non-fiction, games and more. There will be crafts, games, story writing and story telling.
What they'll also get fromcamp is an opportunity to practice social skills, learn some reading
strategies, and develop their abstract thinking skills. They'll start to identify the elements of a story; to
create graphic organizers; to make predictions and to draw inferences; and to summarize and identify
a main idea. They'll work on their reading fluency, and practice reading aloud with intonation and
expression. The goal is to develop their reading comprehension and their ability to interpret what
they've read.

If the need of your child do not fit neatly into any of the above categories, please let us know how
we can help!
